Toned paper and pencils

I love using light colour pencils, pastel pencils and ink on black paper for a chiaroscuro effect. I started drawing the chiaroscuro pictures on black paper quite early on in my art journey and it’s interesting to look back from more recent pieces to the drawings I did right at the start! I use a variety of pencils from Faber Castell Polychromos to Derwent Lightfast, Chromaflow and Drawing pencils.

I also like using pencils on toned paper with limited earth colours, particularly the Derwent drawing pencils or using colour pencils as part of mixed media pieces with alcohol markers.
