I’ve always been passionate about animals, wildlife and nature and my career has involved working both as a veterinary surgeon and as a lecturer in veterinary and animal health subjects. Living between the Yorkshire Wolds, Moors and Dales, I spend much of my free time in the countryside watching wild animals and birds, so wildlife photography and art were a natural progression as hobbies. My love of nature inspires me to capture the moments that I’ve been fortunate enough to witness, either by creative photography or by painting or drawing. Whatever the medium, I aim to show the sense of wonder I experience when encountering wildlife, as well as the character and beauty of the subject. Each image I make tells a story of a moment that I’ve been privileged enough to experience and I love being able to share the beauty and excitement of these wildlife encounters with others.
After reaching the shortlist for several wildlife photography competitions, in 2011 I was delighted to win the British wildlife category of the Outdoor Photographer of the year competition with my photo of a Mountain hare (above).
One of my photos featured in the Scottish Nature Photography awards 2012 Portfolio yearbook, and in 2017 my photo of a long-eared owl in woodland was shortlisted in the British Wildlife Photography Awards (below)
In 2015 I was awarded my LRPS (Licentiate Distinction from the Royal Photographic Society) and CPAGB (Credit award from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain).
