Creative nature – playing with time

Another of the techniques I use to create more expressive nature photos is the use of long exposures. Long exposures can be used to either pan with a moving subject and blur the background or to blur motion like flapping wings in a moving subject. For me, these depict the living, moving wildlife more effectively than frozen movement. I have also used long exposure linked with second curtain sync flash (or slow sync flash) to blur the movement of feathers or flowers to create the impression of moving in the breeze.
